“Most misunderstandings in the world could be avoided if people would simply take the time to ask, “What else could this mean?”
― Shannon L. Alder
Ask quality questions.
Anthony Robbins says it is the quality of the questions you ask (and the answers) that determine the quality of your life. Simply put, ask quality questions and you are more likely to experience a quality life.
Let’s compare the following two questions to see how this works:
Q1 – How come everything is so hard?
Q2 – What can I do differently to overcome this obstacle?
The responses to the two questions will give you a clue to how powerful questions are. Responses to the first question will be along the line of:
- That’s just the way it is.
- Why bother.
- I never have any luck.
Responses to the second question will be along the line of:
- I can do…
- Maybe if I try this…
- I never thought of that before.
The first question keeps you stuck in a problem. The second one forces you to find solutions. It is solutions that will propel you to action.
What questions are you asking yourself on a daily basis? Are they powerful, solution and action oriented? Are they empowering or do they result in excuses, justifications and leave you feeling stuck?
HABIT TO TRY: For the next 30 days, any time you feel stuck, anxious, overwhelmed, or are procrastinating, take note of the questions you are asking yourself. Replace them with ones that motivate you and result in action.
